Cooler weather for the New Year, coldest air of season next week

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Monday was the final warm day we will see for awhile. High temperatures were in the low to mid 70s, but a cold front will bring cooler weather for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. An arctic airmass will move in next week bringing cold days and freezing nights.

A cold front will roll in Monday night pushing the warm air out of the region as our lows will settle into the 40s. The windy conditions will let up, but there will be a breeze of 5 to 10 miles per hour overnight.

New Year’s Eve: The front will not bring any rain so expect mostly sunny skies on Tuesday. Wind will occasionally gust 15 to 20 miles per hour making it a cool afternoon, and a chilly night. Temperatures will be in the low 40s at midnight as we ring in 2025. No rain is expected, so if you’re blasting off fireworks, or celebrating outside with family and friends, you are good to go!

New Year’s Day: Temperatures will be in the 30s on Wednesday morning followed by a cool afternoon in the 50s with a light north breeze. Highs will be near average with plenty of sunshine.

Late week into the weekend: High temperatures will be in the 50s and low 60s for the remainder of the week. There will be a small warming trend over the weekend ahead of a cold front that will bring some showers and storms late Sunday. This front has enough energy to monitor for severe weather, but the cool temperatures may prevent any strong storms from developing.

Cold next week!! Confidence is very high in a surge of cold air arriving behind our weekend storms. At this point no winter weather is expected in the Sunday/Monday timeframe, but highs will plummet into the 40s with even colder wind chill temperatures. Each day next week will be in the 40s with lows in the 20s.

The late week period (January 10th/11th) could bring a stronger cold front with some precipitation. If this occurs we may need to monitor for winter weather. Given we are over 10 days away, we don’t know any specifics or fine details. These will get ironed out late this week and next week, so stay tuned for updates!
