Four men held in Germany over asylum seeker’s death in The Hague

Four men have been taken into custody in Germany following a fatal attack on an asylum seeker in the Netherlands, German police said on Tuesday.

The men are suspected of assaulting a 23-year-old man from Somalia in The Hague in July.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 23, live in Germany and were detained near the western city of Wuppertal.

The Dutch prosecutors have requested their extradition.

The Somali man lived in an accommodation for asylum seekers. On the night of July 21, an argument between him and four men in a pub in The Hague led to the fatal confrontation.

The man died shortly afterwards in hospital.

Details of how the assault unfolded and a possible motive have not been disclosed.
